Sustainability

We have a mission

We conduct in-depth analyses of our environmental and social impact because we are well aware that good intentions alone are not enough. They need to be measured so we can detect any areas for improvement and establish how to grow together in line with the national economic system.

Examining the origins, history, path and actions that have led to your current standing is often key to understanding the present and imagining the future.

-->

This is why we have created a section dedicated to all the activities that the Rotolito Group engages in to “be” sustainable, starting with the first non-financial sustainability report. An initial step towards B Corp certification.

Goals, commitments, projects

“Performing well” is part of who we are.

With the help of NATIVA, we undertook an in-depth analysis and measurement of sustainability, in line with the criteria of the B Impact Assessment.

We operate a regenerative business model, in co-evolution with our stakeholders and interdependence with the community.

With respect to the goals of the Paris 2030 Agenda, we have identified 7 points to adhere to and contribute with concrete actions to safeguard People, Planet and Prosperity.

goal 6
Clean water and sanitation

Our contribution to saving drinking water in the production stages is a significant example of our anti-waste mindset towards water resources. One example is the drawing of groundwater to exploit its constant temperature of 14° used in the cooling systems for production stages. The water drawn is then returned to source without changing its properties. But we are committed to an ongoing reduction of our water footprint.

goal 7
Affordable and clean energy

Our main goal, as it has always been, is energy efficiency. A significant example are the two photovoltaic plants that generate 1.35 MWh of energy annually, to which is added a high-efficiency CHP (Combined Heat Power) cogeneration system. The renewable electricity acquired from the mains is certified by guarantees of origin. But new investments and new projects are always under examination.

goal 8
Decent work and economic growth

Rotolito has always invested in progress, work and the quality of people’s lives. The values of a united and supportive family guide our actions, leading us to help realise the potential of our resources, to value inclusion and diversity, and to implement welfare and well-being projects at all levels.

goal 9
Industry, innovation and infrastructure

For the last fifty years or so, Rotolito has invested in research and innovation in accordance with a business philosophy that generates quality, progress and prosperity. We have become a benchmark in our industry: we are now committed to becoming a reference point for sustainable printers.

goal 12
Responsible consumption and production

We are committed to adopting improved anti-waste solutions and efficiency at all levels, both where consumer materials and our production are concerned. Our Sustainability Plan includes a commitment to act as a promoter of good practices to all our stakeholders.

goal 13
Combat climate change and its impacts

Climate change is a consequence of the real problem, i.e. the global warming that has occurred as a result of disproportionate greenhouse gas emissions. We are committed to acting on all fronts to cut our emissions and to involve our customers, suppliers and partners in taking an active part in our projects to raise awareness.

goal 15
Life on land

Climate change is a point of no return especially because humanity has razed to the ground the only real antagonist of global warming: forests. And this is why we have long been committed to protecting natural forests by mainly using certified paper from responsibly managed forests and, in the future, to being a promoter of projects in defence of green spaces.

EU Ecolabel Certification The European Union’s ecological quality Label

The label distinguishes products and services that, while guaranteeing high performance standards, are characterised by a reduced environmental impact throughout the entire life cycle.

EU Ecolabel was established in 1992 by Regulation 880/92 and is now governed by EC Regulation no. 66/2010.

EU Ecolabel is a voluntary ecological label based on a science-based system of selective criteria that takes into account the environmental impacts of products or services throughout the entire average life cycle of products and their reusability/recyclability as well as the reduction of packaging and its recycled content.

The criteria established at the European level with a wide participation of stakeholders (e.g. consumer associations, environmental associations).

Measurement platforms

ESG Performance Assessment

Measuring, understanding, improving: building a solid ESG performance measurement method has become a primary goal for Rotolito.

EcoVadis

Environmental performance platform

EcoVadis is a platform that makes it possible to assess the environmental and social sustainability performance of your company, making information available to supply chains and stakeholders.

EcoVadis’ evaluation tools and criteria allow companies to compare their results with those of other organisations and define targeted programmes and actions to improve their environmental performance over time.

Book Chain Project

Supply Chain traceability Platform

Book Chain Project aims at ensuring the traceability of complex book supply chains by collecting and analysing data and connecting stakeholders along the supply chain.
Publishers use this collective knowledge to make informed decisions for their own book production.
The topics that are monitored and tracked are mainly:

  • Paper and forest supply
  • Inks and chemical products
  • Environmental and Company Codes of Conduct
Climate Partner

Carbon Footprint Platform

Climate Partner is a platform used globally to measure carbon footprint (Scope 1, 2 and 3), measure emissions reduction progress and participate in carbon footprint offset projects.
The possible measurements are divided into:

  • Corporate Carbon Footprint, based on the direct and indirect emissions of each production plant and location
  • Product Carbon Footprint, based on the product life cycle following the cradle-to-grave logic
CDP - Carbon Disclosure Project

Global Environmental disclosure platform

CDP is a non-profit organisation that provides a platform used globally by investors, businesses, cities, states and regions to promote and standardise the disclosure of environmental performance.

The tools available to companies allow them to measure and manage the risks and opportunities arising from climate change, water care and deforestation.

SMETA Audit Ensuring Ethical Labour Practices

It is an audit methodology developed by SEDEX that assures customers and consumers of an organisation’s commitment to social issues and ethical and environmental standards in its supply chain.

Supporting a SMETA audit testifies that the organisation is committed to respecting workers’ rights, improving the aspects of workplace health and safety and environmental sustainability within its company and keeping those of its supply chain under control, communicating the results to stakeholders.
